THE QUICK READ
Tyson Foods runs a pork processing plant in Storm Lake, Iowa, where hogs move through slaughter, fabrication, and packaging lines to become fresh and boxed pork cuts. The plant covers both the kill-floor work and the further-processing steps that turn whole hogs into retail-ready product. It holds roughly 278,635 pounds of ammonia for its refrigeration system — large enough to require a formal process safety management program, since federal rules kick in at 10,000 pounds.

ABOUT TYSON FOODS
Tyson Foods began in 1935 when John W. Tyson started hauling chickens for sale from Arkansas, incorporating in 1947 and going public in 1963. It grew through acquisitions, including IBP in 2001, which added large-scale beef and pork processing, and Hillshire Brands in 2014, adding Jimmy Dean and Ball Park to its own Tyson, Hillshire Farm, Wright Brand, Aidells, and State Fair brands. By fiscal 2025, Tyson operated roughly 200 facilities worldwide, employed about 133,000 people, and reported $54.4 billion in revenue. It trades publicly on the NYSE under ticker TSN, while the Tyson family retains majority voting control through a dual-class share structure.
