THE QUICK READ

Trident Seafoods' plant in Cordova processes wild Alaska salmon into canned salmon and salmon oil, running seasonal lines through the Copper River and Prince William Sound catches: sockeye and king salmon in late spring, then sockeye, keta, and pink salmon through summer. The facility holds roughly 23,000 pounds of ammonia for its refrigeration system, large enough to require a formal process safety management program, since federal rules kick in at 10,000 pounds. Work here follows the fish, with the plant ramping up hard for the spring and summer runs.

ABOUT TRIDENT SEAFOODS

Trident Seafoods was founded in 1973 by Chuck Bundrant and two fishing partners, starting with a single vessel that combined crab harvesting and processing at sea. The company grew to process Alaska pollock, salmon, crab, and other whitefish, opening a value-added plant in Anacortes, Washington in 1988 to supply pollock to national restaurant chains. Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, Trident now operates processing plants in Alaska, Georgia, Minnesota, and Washington. The company remains privately held, majority owned by the Bundrant family, with Chuck's son Joe Bundrant serving as chief executive officer.
