THE QUICK READ
The Pilgrim's Pride complex in Moorefield, WV runs multiple chicken operations under one roof — a fresh plant that slaughters and cuts whole birds into parts, and a prepared foods plant that turns chicken into cooked nuggets, patties, and strips for brands like Pierce Chicken. The complex processes over a million live birds per week across its lines, making it the largest employer in Hardy County. In 2025, Pilgrim's opened a $14.8 million employee housing complex next to the plant with 168 apartments and an onsite childcare center.
