THE QUICK READ
HP Hood processes extended-shelf-life fluid milk and nondairy beverages at its Winchester, Virginia plant, where workers run high-speed filling, packaging, and cold storage lines for the company's own brands and private-label partners. The facility holds 106,398 pounds of ammonia for its refrigeration system, more than ten times the federal threshold that triggers a formal process safety management program. Hood recently completed an 83.5-million-dollar expansion here, growing the plant from 265,000 to 441,000 square feet and adding new production and packaging equipment.
