THE QUICK READ
Leprino Foods runs a dairy processing plant in Roswell that turns raw milk into mozzarella cheese, whey protein, and lactose. Workers keep the pasteurizing, evaporating, and packaging lines running to move milk from raw ingredient to finished product. The plant holds roughly 130,000 pounds of ammonia for its refrigeration system, enough to require a formal process safety management program since federal rules kick in at 10,000 pounds. In 2018, Leprino invested more than $15 million to expand the Roswell facility.

ABOUT LEPRINO FOODS
Leprino Foods traces to 1950, when Mike Leprino Sr. began making mozzarella at his family's corner grocery store in Denver, Colorado. His son Jim Leprino took over as chairman and chief executive in 1972 and built the company into the world's largest mozzarella cheese manufacturer, also producing lactose and whey protein. As of 2025 Leprino employs more than 5,500 people across plants in the United States, United Kingdom, and other countries, with reported annual revenue near $3 billion. The company remains privately held and family-owned, still headquartered at its original Denver site.
