THE QUICK READ
HP Hood's plant in Suffield, Connecticut mixes and packages ice cream, sherbet, and frozen yogurt, running five production lines around the clock — including lines for quarts, three-gallon bulk containers, and ice cream sandwiches. The plant turns out roughly 350 different packaged items and checks each batch in an on-site lab before it ships. It holds about 47,500 pounds of ammonia for refrigeration, well past the 10,000-pound mark where federal rules require a formal process safety management program — which this site has on file.
