US Foods traces its roots to John Sexton & Company, founded in 1883, and took shape through mergers that formed Rykoff-Sexton in 1983 and JP Foodservice in 1989. Royal Ahold bought the business in 2000; private equity firms Clayton, Dubilier & Rice and KKR acquired it from Ahold in 2007. The company returned to public markets in 2016, listing on the New York Stock Exchange as US Foods Holding Corp. (USFD), after a planned merger with Sysco was called off. Headquartered in Rosemont, Illinois, it distributes food and supplies with about 30,000 employees and roughly $39 billion in 2025 revenue, and operates the cash-and-carry chain CHEF'STORE.
