Sysco was formed in 1969 when nine regional food distribution companies merged in Houston, Texas, combining about $115 million in sales; the company went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 1970. It grew through acquisitions including CFS Continental in 1988, Canada's SERCA Foodservices in 2002, and Europe's Brakes Group for $3.1 billion in 2016, and now operates brands such as Sygma, FreshPoint, and Greco & Sons. As of 2024, Sysco runs 340 distribution centers across 10 countries with about 76,000 employees, and reported revenue of $81.4 billion in fiscal 2025. Sysco remains a publicly traded company on the NYSE under ticker SYY.
