THE QUICK READ

SFI Richland Center East is one of two Schreiber Foods yogurt plants in Richland Center, Wisconsin, where the lines turn milk into yogurt and sour cream for grocery shelves. Day-to-day work here covers running and maintaining the processing and packaging lines, plus the refrigeration gear that keeps chilled dairy moving through the plant. It holds roughly 19,000 pounds of ammonia — large enough to require a formal process safety management program, since federal rules kick in at 10,000 pounds. Schreiber has put more than $100 million into its two Richland Center yogurt plants over the past five years.
