JR Simplot Company was founded in 1929 by Jack Simplot, who began farming in Idaho as a teenager before building a business shipping and processing potatoes. The company later developed frozen french fry production and became a major supplier to the fast food industry. Over the decades it expanded into fertilizer manufacturing, farming, ranching, and food brands, growing into a global food and agriculture company with operations across North America and abroad. JR Simplot remains privately held and family owned, employing more than 15,000 people worldwide.
