ABOUT GENERAL MILLS
Cadwallader Washburn opened a flour mill in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1866, and the company became Washburn Crosby Company in 1877 after John Crosby joined as partner. In 1928 Washburn Crosby merged with several regional millers to form General Mills, growing out of an 1880 milling award that later became the Gold Medal flour brand. Today General Mills makes packaged foods and cereals under brands including Cheerios, Betty Crocker, Pillsbury, and Haagen-Dazs, plus pet food and snacks. It is a public company traded on the New York Stock Exchange under ticker GIS.
