THE QUICK READ
Bar-S Foods has operated its flagship meat processing plant at 200 Locust Avenue in Clinton, Oklahoma since the company was founded in 1981 through a management buyout of Cudahy Company's meatpacking division. The original 75,000-square-foot facility has gone through multiple expansions, including a $7 million build-out in the early 1990s and a 26,000-square-foot addition in 2002. The plant produces hot dogs, lunch meat, ham, and other processed meats under the Bar-S brand, now owned by Sigma Alimentos. Its ammonia refrigeration system holds roughly 41,700 pounds, well above the 10,000-pound threshold that triggers a federal process safety management program. Clinton is a city of about 8,500 people in western Oklahoma, along Interstate 40 roughly 100 miles west of Oklahoma City.
