Packaging Engineer Catalent’s Philadelphia, Pennsylvania site serves as the company’s North American Center of Excellence for clinical supply packaging, delivering comprehensive, end‑to‑end support for global clinical trials across multiple therapeutic modalities. The site provides integrated services including direct comparator sourcing, blinding and manufacturing, primary and secondary packaging, storage and distribution, and clinical returns management, enabling efficient and compliant trial execution. It also plays a growing role in supporting biologic as well as cell and gene therapy programs, with enhanced cold‑chain and cryogenic handling capabilities designed to meet the complex requirements of advanced therapies. As a critical hub within Catalent’s global clinical supply network, the Philadelphia site helps sponsors accelerate development timelines while maintaining the highest standards of quality, flexibility, and regulatory compliance. Our Philadelphia site is located in the Bensalem/Northeast Philadelphia area. Position Summary We have an opportunity for a Packaging Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will design and develop packaging solutions that meet customer requirements while ensuring compatibility with production equipment and operational efficiency. You will create and maintain packaging component designs, samples, diagrams, and technical documentation to support manufacturing, labeling, and assembly processes. You will work closely with Engineering, Production, Quality Assurance, and customers to provide technical expertise, troubleshoot design and process issues, and implement corrective actions to improve performance and product quality. You will also support continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing process performance, enhancing overall equipment effectiveness, and participating in root cause investigations. Shift: Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm Location: Philadelphia, PA 100% Onsite The Role Collaborate with internal staff and customers to design functional packaging and recommend materials for efficient production Develop or obtain all component designs and create preliminary graphic designs for blister cards and cartons Produce blister card, partition, carton, and pouch samples using onsite sample lab to support clients and project management Prepare pictorial diagrams for label placement and kit assembly instructions for batch records Generate drug placement diagrams for production and design blister card sealing templates for heat sealing machines to prevent product mix-up Update a network directory of all design files for read-only use and log all drawings into the design database for future reference Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to develop and implement packaging processes on the production floor Perform all other duties as assigned The Candidate Requires Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Packaging Engineering, with 1 year of relevant experience OR High School Diploma/GED with at least 5 years of relevant experience Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access is required Ability to use handheld measuring devices, run sample-making equipment, and operate basic mechanical machinery is required Familiarity with production equipment and manufacturing processes is preferred 2 years of work experience in clinical packaging and/or commercial packaging is preferred Previous experience using AutoCAD, Artios CAD, Adobe Photoshop, or similar software is preferred Why You Should Join Catalent Defined career path and annual performance review and feedback process Diverse, inclusive culture Potential for career growth on an expanding team within an organization dedicated to preserving and bettering lives Competitive paid time off plus 8 paid holidays Community engagement and green initiatives Medical, dental, and vision benefits effective day one of employment Tuition reimbursement Catalent offers rewarding opportunities to further your career!
