Facilities and Grounds Mechanic Position Overview The Facilities and Grounds Mechanic is responsible for helping maintain plant buildings, support areas, and exterior grounds in a safe, clean, and reliable condition. This position performs routine repairs, preventive maintenance, and general facility upkeep. During available downtime, the mechanic will cross-train with the refrigeration team to provide backup support within their demonstrated training, qualifications, and authorization. Primary Responsibilities Repair and maintain restroom fixtures and components, including toilets, urinals, sinks, faucets, dispensers, and partitions. Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair doors and related hardware, including locks, latches, hinges, closers, handles, and seals. Perform routine preventive maintenance on cafeteria equipment, including cleaning cooler coils and completing basic equipment inspections. Replace HVAC filters and assist with other routine HVAC maintenance activities. Complete general building repairs and upkeep, including minor plumbing, painting, caulking, and fixture replacement. Maintain plant grounds and exterior areas through cleanup, seasonal maintenance, snow and ice removal, and other assigned tasks. Respond promptly to facility work requests and complete assigned work safely and efficiently. Accurately document completed repairs, preventive maintenance, materials used, and equipment concerns in the work order system. Identify facility or equipment issues and communicate repair needs to the appropriate leader. Coordinate with plant departments, contractors, and outside service providers as needed. Maintain tools, equipment, parts, and work areas in a clean and organized condition. Cross-train with the refrigeration team during downtime and provide backup mechanic support only within established training, qualifications, and authorization. Follow all applicable safety, food safety, sanitation, environmental, and maintenance procedures. Comply with lockout/tagout requirements, personal protective equipment standards, and other plant safety programs. Perform other duties as assigned to support facility and plant operations. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in facilities maintenance, building maintenance, general maintenance, or a related field. Basic knowledge of plumbing, door hardware, HVAC maintenance, and general repair practices. Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and computerized work order systems. Basic mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and maintenance equipment. Ability to read and follow work instructions, safety procedures, and equipment manuals. Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently. Effective communication and teamwork skills. Ability to prioritize multiple work requests in an active manufacturing environment. Willingness to learn refrigeration systems and complete required cross-training for backup support. Physical and Work Environment Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, reach, and work in various positions throughout the shift. Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment as required. Ability to use ladders and work at varying heights when properly trained and authorized. Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions. Ability to work around operating machinery, production activity, noise, moisture, cleaning chemicals, and refrigerated areas. Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment. Availability to respond to changing facility needs and assist with seasonal or emergency maintenance when required.
