Job Function: R D Product Development Job Sub Function: Robotics Job Category: Scientific/Technology All Job Posting Locations: Santa Clara, California, United States of America Job Description: The Robotics and Digital solutions (RAD) group, part of the Johnson Johnson family of companies, is recruiting for a Senior Robotics and Controls Engineer for the Strategic Robotics R D Team. This position is located in Santa Clara, CA. What We Do: The Strategic Robotics R D team envisions a future for robotic intervention that is targeted, minimally invasive, and personalized. Building upon a deep understanding of patient and physician needs, we are developing a platform for the next evolution of soft-tissue robotic care. Who We Are: We are a team of clinical, electrical, mechanical, mechatronics, robotic controls, and software engineers who are passionate about improving patient care. The team includes a wide range of experience levels from junior engineers to industry experts. You: As a member of the Strategic Robotics R D team you will join us on our journey to design and build one of the world s most sophisticated medical robotic platforms. You will work in coordination with technical experts of multiple robotic platforms to make meaningful contributions in robotic controls for our latest surgical platform. This role offers a high degree of autonomy and opportunities for growth within the team as we progress towards realizing our vision. Core Responsibilities: Work as part of a focused multi-functional team developing robotic solutions for next generation medical robotic systems Develop novel methods for human-robot interaction, incorporating feedback from clinical engineers and physicians Collaborate with instrument and capital hardware engineers to implement and test various algorithms to control novel medical devices and systems Design and implement software in a real-time, safety-critical environment Develop test protocols for evaluating algorithms and evaluating hardware/software performance Quickly implement concept proofs and prototypes, and test on systems Participate in design discussions, code reviews, procedure development, and clinical procedures Qualifications: One of the following combinations of years of experience and education are required: A.) a minimum of B.S. degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline (e.g. Computer Engineering, EE, ME, or equivalent) combined with 6 years of experience developing sophisticated robotics applications for electro-mechanical systems OR B.) a M.S. degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline with 4 years of experience developing sophisticated robotics applications for electro-mechanical systems OR C.)a PhD in Computer Science or a related technical discipline with 1 years of experience developing sophisticated robotics applications for electro-mechanical systems Additional Qualifications: Proficiency with C/C programming and proficiency with computer science fundamentals (e.g. algorithms, data structures, object-oriented design in UNIX environments) is required. Fundamental knowledge of, and experience with robotic dynamics and kinematics is required. Deep knowledge in one or more of the following: Detection/Estimation, UI/UX design, Haptics, Soft Robotics, or Nonlinear Control is highly beneficial. Excellent communication and documentation skills are required. Ability to travel up to 5%, domestic and international is required. The anticipated base pay range for this position is $125,000 - $201,250.
