Job Summary

Fox Contractors is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Field Service Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair construction equipment at field locations throughout Indianapolis and surrounding areas.

The ideal candidate has at least five years of hands-on heavy equipment repair experience, strong diesel and hydraulic diagnostic skills, and the ability to work independently in the field. Experience with Caterpillar (CAT) construction equipment is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair excavators, loaders, dozers, and other heavy construction equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and emergency field repairs.
• Diagnose diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, electrical systems, and mechanical failures.
• Read and interpret equipment manuals, electrical diagrams, and hydraulic schematics.
• Use diagnostic software, testing equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
• Perform welding, fabrication, and component replacement as needed.
• Document repairs, maintenance activities, and equipment conditions.
• Communicate repair needs and timelines with field supervisors.
• Maintain the company-provided service truck, tools, and equipment.
• Follow all company safety policies and applicable safety procedures.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of professional heavy equipment or diesel mechanic experience.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and mechanical troubleshooting.
• Experience diagnosing and repairing construction equipment.
• Ability to independently complete field repairs.
• Ability to read technical diagrams and service manuals.
• Experience using diagnostic tools and mechanical equipment.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to safely perform the physical duties of field maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Caterpillar construction equipment.
• Familiarity with CAT Electronic Technician (CAT ET).
• Previous mobile or field service mechanic experience.
• Construction fleet maintenance experience.
• Welding and fabrication skills.
• Familiarity with OEM repair procedures.

Compensation & What We Offer
