Position: Maintenance Manager

Reports To: Plant Manager

Department: Maintenance

Location: Easley, South Carolina

Direct Reports: Maintenance technicians, Controls Technician, and Tooling Department personnel

Position Summary

The Maintenance Manager is the single, hands-on leader accountable for plant maintenance, equipment reliability, and the Tooling Department at Engineered Products. The position directly supervises maintenance, controls, and tooling personnel; there is no separate Maintenance Supervisor. Working in partnership with the Senior Manufacturing Engineer – Continuous Improvement, this role ensures that machines and production tooling safely and reliably meet established manufacturing process requirements.

The Tooling Department provides day-to-day production support for all punch/stamping and structural steel roll-form tooling. The Maintenance Manager owns tooling readiness, inspection, preventive service, adjustment, repair, refurbishment, and toolroom resources. Manufacturing Engineering retains technical ownership of manufacturing processes, tooling design requirements, engineered modifications, and process validation.

Primary Responsibilities

Maintenance & Tooling Department Leadership

  • Lead, schedule, coach, and evaluate maintenance technicians, controls resources, and tooling personnel; establish work priorities, coverage, skills development, and accountability.
  • Own daily maintenance and tooling execution, balancing emergency breakdowns, planned production support, scheduled preventive maintenance, and toolroom workload.
  • Coordinate production windows, breakdown response, shift handoffs, vendors, tooling support, and planned shutdowns with Production; align long-term equipment and process improvements with the Senior Manufacturing Engineer.
  • Manage department spending, outside services, critical spare parts, tooling consumables, and procurement recommendations within approved authority.
  • Maintain a visible work backlog, clear escalation paths, and timely communication of equipment and tooling constraints.

Hands-On Plant Maintenance & Equipment Reliability

  • Lead diagnosis and repair of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic failures on roll formers, stamping/punch presses, press brakes, lasers, weld cells, conveyors, finishing equipment, and plant utilities.
  • Direct PLC/HMI/VFD, safety circuit, sensor, encoder, and servo troubleshooting; partner with the Controls Technician for programming changes and advanced automation work.
  • Oversee precision mechanical work, alignments, drives, bearings, lubrication systems, fabrication, and machine repair; provide hands-on technical support when needed.
  • Own the Tractian CMMS: asset records, work orders, PM scheduling, failure history, backlog, labor/cost capture, and closure quality.
  • Own investigations and corrective actions for equipment- or tooling-condition failures, using downtime trends, repeat-failure analysis, 5-Why/RCA, MTTR and MTBF. Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering when root cause is related to process parameters, setup design, or tooling design.

Punch, Stamping & Roll-Form Tooling Management

  • Lead the Tooling Department responsible for production support of all punch/stamping dies and roll-form tooling, including tool condition, readiness, repairs, adjustments, and preventive care.
  • Direct tooling personnel in diagnosing and correcting worn or damaged punches/dies, stripping problems, alignment, roll tracking, roll-set condition, and other tooling-related mechanical problems. Partner with Manufacturing Engineering on profile variation, dimensional issues, or operating-parameter changes.
  • Provide urgent in-process tooling repair and tool-change support while coordinating with Production. Production owns setup execution; Manufacturing Engineering owns setup methodology, standard work, and SMED/changeover improvements.
  • Establish tool identification, condition/status tracking, inspection criteria, maintenance records, storage, preservation, and scheduled servicing for punches, dies, roll sets, and related components.
  • Manage the repair/replacement pipeline for worn or damaged tooling, including outside grinding, machining, heat treating, and specialist tooling vendors as needed.
  • Implement approved tooling repairs, refurbishment and modificatio
