The Role

If you are an Embedded Hardware Design Engineer professional looking for an opportunity to grow your career, Emerson has an exciting opportunity for you in Austin, Texas. As part of Emerson Automation Solutions, you will contribute to innovative process automation technologies that help industries operate more efficiently, safely, and sustainably. In this role, you will collaborate with a cross-functional team to develop embedded hardware and firmware solutions for FPGA- and microprocessor-based systems. This is an excellent opportunity to build technical expertise, gain exposure to AI-assisted engineering tools, and contribute across the full product development lifecycle while helping shape the future of automation. In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be: Assist in the design and development of embedded hardware systems, including component selection, schematic capture, printed circuit board (PCB) development, and FPGA integration. Support feasibility studies, simulations, engineering analyses, and prototype evaluations to assess performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost. Partner with hardware, firmware, manufacturing, test, and quality teams throughout the product lifecycle to deliver high-quality solutions. Participate in design reviews, troubleshooting activities, root-cause analysis, and corrective action implementation. Perform laboratory testing, debugging, validation, and verification using standard test equipment and automated test systems. Create and maintain engineering documentation, including schematics, bills of materials (BOMs), test plans, reports, and engineering change records. Support prototype bring-up, board-level debugging, product verification, and sustaining engineering activities. Contribute to engineering data collection, analysis, and traceability efforts that improve product quality, design reuse, and development efficiency. Develop and enhance automated testing, measurement, and reporting processes through scripting, data analysis, and AI-assisted engineering tools. Help transform engineering workflows through automation, structured data, and emerging technologies that improve efficiency, quality, and speed of execution. Stay current with advancements in embedded systems, engineering automation, and AI-enabled product development practices. Who You Are: You quickly learn and apply new technologies, tools, and ways of working to continuously improve results. You approach challenges with curiosity and persistence, identifying practical solutions to complex technical issues. You make informed decisions by considering risks, trade-offs, and long-term outcomes. You build collaborative relationships across teams, sharing knowledge and communicating effectively to achieve shared goals and deliver successful outcomes. For This Role, You Will Need: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field. Knowledge of embedded hardware fundamentals, including circuit design, PCB layout, and communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, and UART. Understanding of digital design concepts, FPGA development, and hardware description languages such as VHDL or Verilog. Familiarity with programming languages such as C/C++ for testing, debugging, or embedded system development. Experience using schematic capture and PCB design tools such as Altium, Eagle, OrCAD, or similar platforms. Experience utilizing AI-assisted engineering, development, or coding tools. Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment and communicate technical information clearly. Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future. Individuals with temporaryvisas such as E, F-1 (including those with OPT or CPT), H-1, H-2, L-1, B, J or TN, or who needsponsorship for work authorization now or in the future, are not eligible. Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart: Internship, co-op, academic project, research, or hands-on experience involving embedded systems or electronics development. Exposure to high-speed digital design, signal integrity, and power integrity principles. Experience with scripting or automation tools such as Python, TCL, MATLAB, or similar technologies. Familiarity with simulation and analysis tools such as HyperLynx, Ansys, SIwave, or equivalent platforms. Experience working with FPGA development environments such as Vivado, Quartus, ModelSim, or Questa. Familiarity with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators, and other laboratory test equipment. Experience using engineering data analysis, visualization, or reporting tools. Exposure to automated testing, data acquisition, and hardware validation methodologies. Familiarity with Azure DevOps, Git, Agile development practices, or related collaboration tools.
