J J Robotics was established in 2020 with the integration of Auris Health, Verb Surgical, C-SATS, and Ethicon. It comprises three key med-tech platforms: Flexible Robotics (MONARCH®), Surgical Robotics (OTTAVA™), and Digital Solutions. The Senior Robotic Algorithms and Controls Engineer will work with the rest of the Robotics and Control team as well as the Clinical, SW, Hardware and Systems Engineering teams to bring to life the control of the surgical robot and instruments. We are a group of highly motivated roboticists working on the development of algorithms and productions level software that live at the heart of a complex electromechanical surgical system. We are responsible for a vast set of robotic functions: kinematic dynamic analysis, motion generation, control algorithms, dynamic system response, tracking performance, rigorous software development etc. Key Responsibilities: Develop, implement, and test robotic and control algorithms for complex electromechanical systems Work closely with mechanical, electrical, systems and clinical engineers to implement and test various algorithms Effectively develop C software in a real-time, safety critical environment Actively participate in algorithmic, control, mechanical design discussions and code reviews Conduct detailed investigations of data collected on the system Assist w/ regulatory filings such as FDA 510(k) in accordance with Quality guidelines Qualifications Education: One of the following combinations of years of experience and education are required: A.) a B.S. degree in a technical discipline (e.g. Computer Science, Computer Engineering, EE, ME, or equivalent) combined with 6 years of relevant post-academic experience OR B.) a M.S. degree in a technical discipline combined with 4 years of relevant post-academic experience OR C.)a PhD in a technical discipline combined with 2 years of relevant post-academic experience Qualifications continued... Strong programming experience in C , Python and/or Matlab is required Solid understanding of robotics fundamentals, serial manipulator design, kinematics dynamics and controls required Strong fundamentals in classical and safety critical control is required. Demonstrable experience applying a data driven and scientific approach to engineering problems is required. Outstanding communication skills is strongly preferred Experience in regulated industries (medical devices, aerospace, automotive) is preferred. Advanced degree in Robotics, CS, EE, ME, or related field is preferred. Hands-on experience with surgical robotics or complex electromechanical systems is preferred. Proficiency in LLMs and ML techniques to enable innovation in advanced projects is preferred but not absolutely required. Ability to travel up to 5%, domestic and international is required The anticipated base pay range for this position is $125,000 - $201,250.
