The Role

Lead Fleet Mechanic / Master Diagnostic Technician

Pulido Transport, L.P. – Houston, TX

About Pulido Transport

Pulido Transport is a Houston-based, family-owned bulk liquid transportation company serving customers throughout the Lower 48 states and Canada. We operate a Class 8 tractor fleet supporting the downstream energy and chemical industries, where safety, reliability, and on-time service are critical to our customers.

We are building a new Repair & Maintenance Department and are looking for an exceptional Lead Fleet Mechanic / Master Diagnostic Technician to help establish and lead our technical maintenance capability.

About the Opportunity

This is not a routine parts-replacement mechanic position.

We are looking for a highly skilled technician who is an exceptional diagnostician and problem-solver—someone who can identify and repair difficult problems that other shops and technicians have been unable to solve.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working at the technical level of a senior dealership diagnostic technician and have experience diagnosing modern Class 8 trucks and diesel powertrains, including platforms such as Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, Cummins, PACCAR, and Detroit.

This is an opportunity for the right person to help build a maintenance department from the ground up, establish diagnostic and repair standards, and become a key technical resource for our fleet.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical, electrical, electronic, engine, aftertreatment, emissions, and drivability issues.
  • Troubleshoot difficult problems that have not been successfully diagnosed by other technicians or repair facilities.
  • Perform advanced electrical and electronic diagnostics using OEM diagnostic software and test equipment.
  • Diagnose Class 8 diesel engines, transmissions, aftertreatment systems, fuel systems, cooling systems, air systems, and other major vehicle systems.
  • Work across multiple truck and powertrain platforms, including Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, PACCAR, Cummins, and Detroit.
  • Perform root-cause analysis rather than simply replacing components based on symptoms or fault codes.
  • Establish effective diagnostic, inspection, preventive maintenance, and repair procedures.
  • Help develop the processes, tools, equipment, and capabilities needed to build Pulido Transport's internal maintenance operation.
  • Serve as the senior technical resource for other mechanics and technicians.
  • Assist with training and developing other maintenance team members.
  • Maintain accurate repair records and document diagnostic findings and corrective actions.
  • Communicate effectively with operations and leadership regarding equipment condition, repair priorities, downtime, and recurring issues.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, reliability, and minimizing equipment downtime.
  • Stay current on new diagnostic technology, OEM systems, technical service information, and repair procedures.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who is exceptionally strong at diagnostics and troubleshooting.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Significant experience working on Class 8 heavy-duty trucks.
  • Advanced diesel diagnostic and repair experience.
  • Strong electrical and electronic troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with OEM diagnostic software and diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, fault codes, and technical service information.
  • Strong understanding of modern diesel engines, emissions, aftertreatment, and electronic control systems.
  • Experience with one or more of the following: Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, PACCAR, Cummins, or Detroit.
  • Ability to diagnose the root cause of a problem rather than simply replacing parts.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • A willingness to help build processes and a maintenance operation from the ground up.
  • A team-oriented attitude and willingness to teach and develop others.

The Person We're Looking For

If you're the technician other mechanics call when they can't figure it out, we want to meet you.

We are particularly interested in technicians who have demonstrated the ability to take on difficult diagnostic problems, think systematically, use available technical resources, and find the root cause when the obvious answers don't work.

This is an opportunity for someone who wants to have a meaningful role in building something, not simply performing the same repairs every day.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of heavy-duty/Class 8 truck repair experience preferred.
  • ASE certifications preferred.
  • OEM training or certifications preferred.
  • Experience working in a dealership or high-level fleet maintenance environment preferred.
  • Experience with PACCAR, Cummins, Detroit, Pete
