The Role

Maintenance Technician

Technique is looking for a Maintenance Technician to join our team at our Jackson, Michigan facility. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position keeps our production equipment and our facility running safely and reliably. The Maintenance Technician performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair across the full range of plant systems – electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical – on equipment that includes press brakes, stamping presses, lasers, tube benders, CNC machines, and welding cells, as well as the building systems that support them.

The ideal candidate is a well-rounded, hands-on maintenance professional with at least three years of industrial maintenance experience. You are comfortable working on 480V three-phase power, motor controls, and VFDs, can read electrical schematics and hydraulic prints, and can diagnose a problem to its root cause rather than just replace parts. Welding and fabrication skills, basic PLC troubleshooting, and a strong commitment to lockout/tagout and safe work practices are key to success in this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Preventive Maintenance – Perform scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance on production equipment, including press brakes, stamping presses, fiber lasers, turret punches, tube benders, CNC machining centers, and welding equipment, to minimize unplanned downtime.
  • Troubleshooting & Repair – Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic failures quickly and safely, identifying root cause to prevent repeat breakdowns.
  • Electrical Systems – Troubleshoot and repair 480V three-phase and 120/240V systems, motors, motor controls, starters, contactors, relays, sensors, VFDs, and control panels; perform basic PLC input/output troubleshooting.
  • Hydraulic Systems – Maintain and repair hydraulic pumps, valves, cylinders, accumulators, hoses, and fittings on presses and forming equipment; monitor fluid condition, filtration, and leaks.
  • Pneumatic Systems – Service air cylinders, solenoid valves, regulators, and lines on production equipment, and maintain the plant compressed air system including compressors and dryers.
  • Mechanical Systems – Repair and replace bearings, gearboxes, drives, belts, chains, couplings, and shafts; perform alignment, lubrication, and adjustment to manufacturer specifications.
  • Welding & Fabrication – Use MIG, stick, and torch cutting to repair equipment and fabricate brackets, guards, fixtures, and supports as needed.
  • Facility Maintenance – Maintain building systems including HVAC, lighting, plumbing, dock doors, overhead cranes and hoists, fire protection support, and general building and grounds upkeep.
  • Equipment Installation & Relocation – Support the installation, rigging, leveling, anchoring, and utility hookup of new and relocated equipment.
  • Safety & Compliance – Follow and enforce lockout/tagout, NFPA 70E, and OSHA requirements; identify and correct unsafe conditions on equipment and in the facility.
  • Work Orders & Documentation – Complete and close work orders, record repairs and parts used, and keep equipment maintenance history accurate in the maintenance tracking system.
  • Parts & Inventory – Maintain spare parts inventory for critical equipment, identify replacement parts, and request purchases to keep stock at appropriate levels.
  • Vendor Coordination – Work with outside contractors, OEM service technicians, and suppliers on specialized repairs, rebuilds, and facility projects.
  • Continuous Improvement – Recommend and implement improvements to equipment reliability, safety, and maintenance procedures in partnership with production and engineering.
  • Emergency Response – Respond to equipment breakdowns and facility emergencies, including participation in an on-call rotation as scheduled.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or trade certification in industrial maintenance, electrical, or mechatronics preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including 480V three-phase power, motor controls, and VFDs
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams, and mechanical drawings
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Basic PLC troubleshooting experience (Allen-Bradley or Siemens) preferred
  • Ability to weld (MIG and stick) and use torch cutting equipment
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools, multimeters, and other electrical test equipment
  • Forklift, aerial lift, and overhead crane experience, or ability to become certified
