Elgin Metal Company is looking for a full-time mechanic to maintain and repair our in-house material handling and industrial equipment.

Our fleet is primarily **electric forklifts**, so the ideal candidate will be comfortable with electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, industrial batteries, and battery chargers.

This is a **Monday-Friday, 40-hour-per-week position**, with overtime regularly available.

**Responsibilities include:**

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain electric forklifts
• Perform preventive maintenance and routine inspections
• Maintain and service industrial forklift batteries
• Troubleshoot and maintain battery chargers
• Diagnose electrical, hydraulic, brake, steering, and mechanical issues
• Perform mast, carriage, and general forklift repairs
• Maintain PM schedules and basic service records
• General mechanical repair of plant equipment as needed
• Welding and fabrication as needed
• Assist with semi-trailer and other equipment repairs when applicable

**What we’re looking for:**

• Forklift, industrial equipment, automotive, truck, or heavy-equipment repair experience
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills
• Experience with industrial batteries and chargers is a plus
• Welding/fabrication experience is a plus
• Semi-trailer or truck repair experience is a plus
• Ability to work independently and solve problems

**Schedule:**

Monday-Friday

40 hours per week

Pay: $34.00 - $36.00 per hour
