Auto Mechanic
Compensation
The Role
Job Summary We are seeking a highly motivated and efficient Auto Mechanic to join our service team at our exceptionally busy shop in Navasota. The cars are lined up, the bays stay full, and you will not be standing around waiting for tickets to drop. We need a problem-solver with a strong understanding of modern automotive systems who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. Because this position utilizes a flag pay structure with a financial safety net, your efficiency, accuracy, and strong time-management skills will directly maximize your earning potential.
Compensation: Flag Pay ($25 - $40 per flagged hour, based on experience) with a $600/Week Guaranteed Minimum
- Flag Pay: You are paid based on standard industry labor times, not the time clock. If a 3-hour job takes you 1.5 hours, you still get paid for all 3 hours. Fast, accurate techs can easily flag well over 40 hours a week.
- $600 Weekly Safety Net: We keep our bays full, but we protect you on unpredictable days. If your weekly flag earnings drop below $600, we cover the difference. You will always earn whichever is higher: your flag pay *or* the $600 guarantee.
- Quality First: Speed pays, but accuracy is required. Comebacks must be corrected by the original tech without extra flag pay.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Utilize computerized diagnostic equipment, specialized software, and manual testing to accurately identify mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues.
- Repairs & Replacements: Execute a wide range of automotive repairs on engines, transmissions, brake systems, steering and suspension, and HVAC systems according to manufacturer specifications.
- Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine and scheduled vehicle maintenance, including oil changes, fluid flushes and filter replacements.
- Quality Control: Conduct pre-repair and post-repair test drives to verify customer concerns and ensure all issues have been fully resolved.
- Estimates & Documentation: Provide service advisors with accurate time and cost estimates for required repairs. Maintain detailed, legible records of work performed.
- Safety & Compliance: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment. Handle hazardous materials in strict compliance with OSHA and EPA regulations.
Qualifications & Skills
- Proven Experience: 3+ years of professional, hands-on experience operating as a high-level, mastery mechanic. You know your way around a bay and can confidently tackle complex repairs without hand-holding.
- Education & Certifications: ASE certifications and trade school degrees are a fantastic bonus, but we hire for raw skill and proven ability—if you can do the work and get it done right, you belong here.
- Diagnostic & Technical Ability: High-level mastery and solid understanding of modern mechanical and electrical systems. You must be comfortable reading wiring diagrams, navigating technical manuals, and accurately diagnosing issues to avoid the "parts cannon" approach.
- The Basics: A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Pay: $25.00 - $40.00 per hour
