Industrial Maintenance Technician - Electrical
Compensation
The Role
About Us
IBR Packaging is a contract packaging facility in Carrollton, TX specializing in flexible packaging — stick packs, sachets, and pouches — for food, supplement, cosmetic, and OTC drug customers. FDA-registered, SQF Level 2 certified. We run multiple short production runs per week for different customers, which means our lines change over constantly. Every day looks different.
The Role
We are hiring two Industrial Maintenance Technicians with strong electrical skills. This role owns the packaging lines: setting them up for each new product, running changeovers between customer jobs, and fixing them when something goes wrong. We also have a lot of electrical work across the facility, so electrician-level skills are a core part of this job, not a side skill. Your days will be a mix of plant electrical work and hands-on equipment setups and changeovers. Preventive maintenance and troubleshooting happen when the lines are down or between runs.
This is not a role for someone who wants to sit in a shop and wait for work orders. This is a role for someone who lives on the production floor, owns the lines, and takes pride in getting them running clean and running fast.
We hire on aptitude and work ethic. You do not need prior experience on our specific equipment — we will teach you the machines. You do need to be someone who can walk up to a machine, understand what it needs, and make it happen.
What You'll Do
- Set up packaging equipment for new production runs. Load film, adjust forming tubes, set fill weights, dial in seal parameters, verify first-off product meets spec.
- Run changeovers between customer jobs. Break down the current setup, clean and sanitize per SQF standards, reconfigure for the next product, and get it running.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical issues. Diagnose sensor faults, motor problems, drive errors, and pneumatic issues in real time during production. Handle facility electrical work too: wiring new equipment, running conduit and pulling wire, and maintaining panels, disconnects, motors and 480V circuits throughout the plant.
- Perform preventive maintenance on schedule when lines are down. Lubrication, belt and bearing inspection, wear-part replacement.
- Read and work from electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
- Use precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers) to verify parts, tolerances, and first-article product.
- Fabricate, modify, and repair parts as needed — welding (including TIG), machining, and bench work.
- Document setup parameters, maintenance work, and parts usage in our CMMS.
- Support the production team as an active part of the floor — this is a small-team environment where everyone pitches in.
Equipment You'll Work On
Horizontal pouch machines, vertical baggers, stick pack machines, sachet fillers, auger fillers, vibratory pill counters, air compressors, and general facility mechanical and electrical systems.
Required
- 3+ years of hands-on setup, changeover, or maintenance experience in manufacturing, contract packaging, food/beverage production, or similar production environment. Distillery, craft manufacturing, and short-run production backgrounds are all relevant.
- Setup and changeover experience. You've reconfigured production equipment for different products, sizes, or specifications before. Bonus points if you've done it multiple times per week.
- Mechanical troubleshooting depth. You diagnose root causes, not just swap parts.
- Strong electrical troubleshooting, electrician-level. 480V three-phase power, motors, VFDs/drives, sensors, control wiring, and schematics. Industrial electrician or journeyman electrician background strongly preferred.
- Comfortable reading electrical and mechanical schematics.
- Ownership mentality. You take a problem, you own it, you finish it. You don't wait for someone to tell you what to do next.
- Able to work 7:30 AM start with occasional Saturdays and 12-hour days when workload requires.
- Located within reasonable commuting distance of Carrollton, TX.
Helpful but Not Required
- Flexible packaging equipment experience (HFFS, VFFS, stick pack, sachet, auger fillers)
- Contract manufacturing or job shop background (frequent setups and changeovers)
- PLC exposure (Allen-Bradley, Siemens) — you're not programming, but you understand I/O
- Pneumatics and compressed air systems
- TIG welding (strongly preferred), plus MIG/stick, machining, and general fabrication
- CAD or basic technical drawing
- Forklift certification, LOTO, confined space training
- GMP / SQF / FDA-regulated environment experience
- Bilingual English/Spanish
- Military maintenance background
What We Are NOT Looking For
- Machine operators looking to move into maintenance with no troubleshooting background
- Reactive-maintenance-only technicians whose day is waiting for breakdowns to happen — this role requires being active on the floor during setups and changeovers, not just respo
