Summary/Objective
- The primary responsibility is to create, administer, maintain and audit manufacturing routings and related ERP/MRP manufacturing data. Most of the position's workload is devoted to routing accuracy, engineering change implementation and controlled manufacturing documentation.
- Provide technical support to Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Planning and Quality to resolve routing and manufacturing data issues.
- Support broader manufacturing engineering work, including troubleshooting, tooling design, CAD/CAM and process improvement, as needed and as time permits. ERP/MRP and routing responsibilities take precedence unless otherwise directed by supervision.
Essential Functions
Primary ERP and Routing Responsibilities
- Create, revise and administer manufacturing routings in ERP/MRP, including operation sequences, machines/work centers, setup requirements, tooling references, outside processing, inspection steps and manufacturing instructions.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, bills of material and engineering changes to determine routing impacts and implement required updates.
- Enter, maintain and audit ERP/MRP manufacturing master data related to part routings, operations, work centers, setup and cycle times, process notes and document references.
- Work with Manufacturing Engineering and Operations to establish and verify setup and cycle-time standards and ensure routing data supports planning, scheduling and costing.
- Audit existing routings against approved manufacturing practices, current drawings and quality requirements; coordinate corrections through the required review and approval process.
- Create and maintain work instructions, standard work, process sheets and forms that support accurate routings and production execution.
- Coordinate routing and documentation changes with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Planning, Purchasing and Operations; maintain revision history and required approvals.
- Establish initial routings and manufacturing records for new parts with appropriate subject-matter experts; update routings for approved equipment, tooling, material, process, supplier and work-center changes.
- Research and resolve missing, unclear or inaccurate routings and manufacturing data; verify that shop orders and travelers reflect the correct operation sequence and instructions.
- Track routing requests and changes, maintain accurate records in accordance with document-control and ISO requirements, and complete updates according to production priorities.
- Support users with manufacturing-related ERP/MRP questions and improve data accuracy, standardization and routing administration using Lean/Continuous Improvement methods.
Secondary Manufacturing Engineering Responsibilities
Perform the following as needed and as time permits, based on workload and priorities established by supervision. These assignments are secondary to ERP/MRP and routing responsibilities and are performed within the employee's training and experience.
- Assist shop floor personnel with troubleshooting tooling, processes, equipment, setups and assembly/testing issues.
- Analyze manufacturing, assembly and testing processes; help identify root causes of nonconformance and improve quality, machine capability and cost.
- Use CAD modeling, detailed 2D drawings and engineering calculations to assist with the design or modification of cutting tools, dies, gages, fixtures, equipment and automation.
- Assist with CAM programming for CNC equipment as assigned.
- Use available metrology tools to measure and evaluate tooling, dies, fixtures and gages.
- Assist with selection of materials, heat treatments and coatings for tooling and equipment based on mechanical and physical properties.
- Support time studies, equipment and tool performance tracking, supplier evaluations and Lean/Continuous Improvement projects; document ap
