Facility Engineer
Compensation
The Role
Atigun, specializing in federal facility operations and maintenance, is seeking an experienced Licensed Mechanical Engineer (PE) to support a major federal facilities management program in Memphis, Tennessee and surrounding areas.
We are looking for a technically accomplished engineer who understands how complex building systems operate and, more importantly, how to make them operate better.
The ideal candidate will have substantial experience with commercial HVAC and mechanical systems, building automation, energy management, and continuous commissioning. We are particularly interested in engineers who can combine technical expertise with practical solutions to improve building performance, reduce operating costs, and extend equipment life.
Candidates holding both a Professional Engineer (PE) license and Certified Energy Manager (CEM) designation are especially encouraged to apply.
This position offers an opportunity to take a leadership role in improving the performance, efficiency, and reliability of significant federal facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide professional engineering expertise and technical oversight for the operation, maintenance, and optimization of commercial building systems.
- Evaluate HVAC and mechanical systems, including chillers, boilers, cooling towers, air handlers, pumps, hydronic systems, and associated equipment.
- Develop and support continuous commissioning and building performance improvement initiatives.
- Analyze Building Automation Systems (BAS), equipment operating sequences, system trends, and energy consumption to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Evaluate mechanical system deficiencies, investigate recurring equipment failures, and develop recommendations for corrective action.
- Identify and implement energy conservation measures, utility cost reduction strategies, and operational improvements.
- Conduct engineering evaluations and facility condition assessments, including recommendations for equipment replacement and capital improvements.
- Provide technical input for mechanical equipment upgrades, system modifications, and repair projects.
- Support preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance programs.
- Evaluate building energy performance, including operating schedules, demand management, and equipment efficiency.
- Support the development of Building Operating Plans, technical reports, and long-term facility improvement strategies.
- Coordinate with facility managers, maintenance personnel, specialty contractors, and government representatives.
- Ensure engineering recommendations and facility operations comply with applicable building codes, ASHRAE standards, and federal facility requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering. Tennessee licensure is preferred; candidates licensed in another state must be eligible to obtain Tennessee PE licensure.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Minimum five years of relevant professional experience in mechanical engineering, commercial facilities, building systems, or energy management.
- Strong technical knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, central plants, mechanical equipment, and building infrastructure.
- Experience evaluating mechanical system performance and developing practical engineering solutions.
- Familiarity with Building Automation Systems and energy management principles.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with facility management and maintenance teams.
- Ability to satisfy federal facility access and background investigation requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM) designation through the Association of Energy Engineers.
- Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP) or similar commissioning credentials.
- Experience conducting energy audits, retro-commissioning, or continuous commissioning.
- Experience with large commercial, institutional, or federal government facilities.
- Familiarity with ASHRAE 100, ASHRAE 180, and other applicable building performance standards.
- Knowledge of energy benchmarking, utility consumption analysis, and building optimization.
- Experience with Building Automation Systems, particularly Tridium Niagara, Johnson Controls Metasys, Siemens, or similar platforms.
- Experience evaluating capital replacement projects and developing lifecycle cost analyses.
